2018 Marilyn Cabernet Sauvignon
The Label:
In April, 1956, Milton Greene captured Marilyn Monroe in a fabulous Grey Fur on the back parking lot of 20th Century Fox. These publicity shots for Marilyn Monroe Productions reveal the depth of Marilyn’s character, something Milton believed in and nurtured. Marilyn wears a straw hat and a beautiful grey fur (chinchilla) in this brazen profile taken in the morning light - reminding us of the woman, not just the actress.
Winemakers Notes:
The color immediately impresses with its deep, dark violet-purple hues. Wonderful intensity and complexity in the nose with aromas of raspberries, brandied cherries and other red fruit with hints of chocolate among other nuances. This wine has a big, rich mouthfeel and wonderful structure. Classic Alexander Valley style with great structure but at the same time restrained tannins. Flavors follow with added
spice notes. Powerful but balanced body and flavors follow through from entry to a long enjoyable finish.
Appellation:
We are excited to release our first wine from Alexander Valley. This appellation is known for producing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in California.
The Vintage:
Relatively mild vintage with only a couple short heat spells , but otherwise near perfect ripening conditions. Low rainfall year but most came at the end of Spring so that the vines had sufficient ground water to get a good start.
